Industry News Desk Red Hat Launches Teiid
Teiid focuses on data virtualization
Apr. 14, 2009 10:00 PM
Red Hat Thursday sent its Teiid data virtualization system project out to the JBoss.org community.
Teiid is called the first open source community project that aims to deliver Enterprise Information Integration (EII) with both relational and XML data virtualization.
Red Hat has sponsored other open source virtualization projects, such as the oVirt.org project.
Craig Muzilla, VP of Red Hat's middleware business, said that "When Red Hat acquired MetaMatrix in April 2007, we committed to releasing the data services technology in the open source community and Teiid is the result of that promise. The demand for applications and services leveraging the data stores of a typical organization never ends. But now, enterprises have a choice between expensive proprietary data services and an enterprise-class open source platform at a fraction of the cost."
Most open source data integration technologies center on physically moving or copying data to locations. Teiid focuses instead on data virtualization, which enables real-time access to data across heterogeneous data sources without copying or moving the data from the system of record. Its Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) and Web Services interfaces are designed to provide straightforward integration with both custom and COTS applications.
Teiid is also supposed to be the backbone of future versions of the JBoss Enterprise Data Services Platform.
Red Hat says data federation capabilities can be embedded into applications without deploying a second server runtime environment.
Teiid should simplify data integration tasks to make consolidated uniform data available to ISV application and speed Sis in delivering solutions that fully leverage a customer's disparate data assets.
Enterprise architects can also access the core of the JBoss Data Services Platform (currently MetaMatrix) with Teiid and solve common problems of heterogeneous data source access for operational applications and business intelligence, bridging on-premise and cloud-based data sources, application migration and modernization as well as tactical data federation on both small and large projects.

Reads: 6,622 By Jeremy Geelan Cloud computing is a game changer. The cloud is disrupting traditional software and hardware business models by disrupting how IT service gets delivered. Entrepreneurial opportunities abound as this classic disruptive technology begins to proliferate, so it is no surprise that SYS-CON's industry-leading International Cloud Expo is going from strength to strength. Call for Papers is now open! Reads: 9,694 By Ellen Rubin The talk at the Cloud Computing Expo this week in Santa Clara was all about enterprise cloud adoption. Is it real? Is it already happening? If so, who’s doing it, which applications are they running and which clouds are being tested? To a large extent, cloud computing is a victim of its own somewhat out-of-control hype cycle. Since so much has been written and discussed about the cloud in 2009, there is now a growing impatience for actual results. Reads: 5,791 By Bill Roth The most anticipated talk of the day yesterday, at the 4th International Cloud Expo, was by the deputy CIO of the CIA, Jill Singer. Her talk was entitled, "Enterprise Cloud Computing, the Infrastructure’s Final Revenge." She acknowledged the problem with defining Cloud Computing, and then went on to give her paragraph-length definition of “the cloud”. Her talk focused on the part of the Cloud behind the firewall. “Today’s CIO must increase the flexibility of the infrastructure,” said Singer. Reads: 6,180 By John Savageau Having gone through a couple of decades worth of technology conferences, a familiar cycle occurs. For the first couple years, technology-related conferences are attended by engineers and operations people. Only after the technology has passed a couple of feasibility gates and begun to hit the business cycle do sales and marketing people take over. Cloud is now officially past the engineering phase, well into the sales phase – and the business community is scrambling to understand the implications of a virtualized world. Our revised revenue projections for 2010 is on track for an all time record revenues since our company's inception in 1994, including media sales up in January from a year ago.
As I made a reference to sponsorship and expo sales, I encourage all our sponsors to take contract option 2 which includes Cloud Expo 2010 East (New York City), Cloud Expo 2010 Europe (Prague, Czech Republic), and Cloud Expo 2010 West (Silicon Valley, California) events. Today, we have close to a 100% resign rate among our sponsors for the upcoming Cloud Expo, which will take place April 19-21, 2010, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.
I would like to take this opportunity to share some tips with all our valued sponsors, exhibitors, our rock start faculty, as well as our delegates. Reads: 2,015 |
